Styles and Steps of Prophetic Call: A Special Study of Sirat-e-Sarwar-e-Ālam by Mawlāna Mawdūdī

Abstract

Mawlāna Mawdūdī's book "Sīrat-e-Sarwar-e-Ālam" is considered as one of the authoritative books of Sīrah, in which the discussions of Sīrah in Maulana Mawdūdī's Tafsīr "Tafhīm-ul-Qur’ān" along with his Sīrah works in his other writings are compiled.  The study presents the style and manner of presenting the methods and stages of Da'wah of the Prophet in Sīrat-e-Sarwar-e-Ālam has been discussed so that the people associated with Sīrah writing can benefit from it. Mawlāna Mawdūdī has divided the Da'wah of the Prophet into two phases: "Meccan era and Madani era". To understand the nature of the da'wah during the ten years of the Meccan era, the author discusses the instructions given to the Holy Prophet for the da'wah activities, and the prophetic wisdom adopted to face of difficulties encountered along the way. Under the heading of the true nature of Islamic Da'wah, in addition to mentioning the Tawḥīd of the Almighty, the message of Muhammad, the Qur'an being the word of Allah and the arguments for believing in the Hereafter, the arguments of the polytheists, and the necessity of the Prophet, the efforts and measures taken by the people of Makkah to thwart the call of the Prophet are included. The author divides the opponents of Islam into two groups, "severe opponents", and "opponents".  The paper concludes that the author's style of writing is smooth, and influential in which the whole outline of the different stages of Da'wah of the Prophet along with the behavior of the opponents and their tactics is presented. Besides it also sheds light on the steadfastness and perseverance of the believers.
